About competitions
What are the competitions about?
You can submit videos of your music performances and participate in the online competitions. Registered users of this site can view and rate your performances. Categories of the competition are based on the instrument; these are: piano, strings, winds, voice and a general category called Other, to cover all other instruments. When submitting a video for the competition, you will need to indicate the instrument category that you are participating in. At the end of each competition period, videos with the highest ratings (subject to holistic analysis) for each category are picked and these videos are listed in the Winners’ list.
How does a video clip become a winning performance?
Ratings submitted by users are sorted to determine the scores of performances in each category. Additionally, because of the inherent potential for spam and manipulation by the digital community, a holistic analysis is made to eliminate unfair ratings to obtain the fairest possible score for each performance.
Do I have to be a professional musician to participate in the competitions?
No; the competition is open to all players regardless of their skills, age or gender. You can submit your or your child’s music performances.
How is a performance rated?
After viewing a video, users can click on the rating of the video to set their rating. A user can rate a given video multiple times, but only the last rating is stored and considered in the final total rating of a video clip.
What if there is a tie?
If there are two or more performances with the same rating, then it is at Editor’s discretion to pick a winner.
Do I have to pay to participate in competitions?
No; participation in the competitions is free.
How can I win a competition?
Those performances that gain the highest ratings win, and that is determined by the users of the site that rate them. Each user’s rating for a given performance is counted only once regardless of number of times this user rates a video.
How frequently are the competitions announced?
Currently the competitions are held once every few months. The date is indicated on the web site. On the day of the competition, the ratings are compiled and winners announced.
What do I gain by winning a competition?
First of all, by uploading your performance on this web site you get exposure to classical music lovers from all over the world. Furthermore, by becoming a winner, you are “put on the map”, so to speak, and you get further recognition worldwide, and a personal satisfaction for your achievement.
Is there a deadline for submitting a video for competition?
No; you can submit your video any time during the year and be rated by viewers. When the next competition date comes, your score is compared to others and the winners are determined.
Are the videos submitted in previous months considered for this month’s competition?
Yes; all videos that are in the “pool” are always considered for subsequent months’ competitions. In the case of winners, these videos are listed as winners and not considered for future competitions (in other words, a given video cannot become a winner more than once)
Is there an age limit or category?
The age limit to access this site is 13 years old, but younger children can do so with the supervision of their parents or their guardians. However, there is no age limit for participating in the competitions. Currently the only classification of the competitions is based on the instrument. In the future, we will have the competitions based on age as well.
What are the differences between a “competition” and “other performance” videos?
A user can submit a video for participation in the competition, or just for viewing by other users. This option is indicated in the upload video page.
